I paddled 68 miles today between 645am and about 630pm. I also lost about an hour backtracking when I tried to take a shortcut outside the main channel. So that makes for 3-5 miles more not on the stat sheet.
Just woke up wanting to test my range. When the weather is fair and Im feeling strong and all provisions are stocked…I think I could do 80 or maybe even 90 with a tailwind and lots of motivation. But that is a max. I doubt I’ll be doing 60 mile days everyday, but I will certainly be seeing bigger numbers than on the Ohio.
Said goodbye to Kentucky today. Its been holding down my left since day 1. Squamy (my kayak’s name – short for squamish, the model) and I are sad to see the ole girl go, but its how this thing works. She gave me the best beaches and most new friends for a solid 3 weeks. Farewell kentucky.
Also, today I was hit by my first asian carp. It jumped from my left over my cockpit, hitting my right arm, and falling in my lap before flopping its dumb ass out of my boat.
G’night!
