Here it is, the official big day. No more talkin’ just walkin’. Look what I awoke to:

I’m not one for omens, unless they’re good omens…haha. but someone staying at our hotel obviously picked the right uhaul to raise my spirits.

We all got up early and I was on the water by 9am. I wanted to get a good solid start on the day. I began, as a i said before, at The Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville, IN…just across the river from Louisville. I did this because that is where Lewis and Clark too started their journey…and so in honor of those dudes, here we go.

First thing i ran into was a canal and had to lock my boat. It was enormous, and i was glad they moved all that water just for my little boat–and i was surprised it was free. The lady yelling down at me did get a little impatient at how unprepared i was. I kept thanking her for being patient…it was my first time, lady.

But after that i saw my first glimpses of big waves on big water. From crest to trough, waves got up to about 3-3.5 feet. I saw probably ten barges and a couple dudes fishing.

I decided to take it in early as i plan to use these first days to adjust to my new world. I only did about 10-15 miles and have setup camp near a riverboat casino, by Elizabeth, IN…on the Kentucky side. I just finished a cup of coffee and am sitting in my chair watching my first river sunset. I’m happy to finally be doing this instead of talking about it. Life is good.
